Performs the duties of a phlebotomist and laboratory assistant collecting and processing blood, urine, fecal, and sputum samples for diagnostic analysis.  Performs venipuncture, heel stick, and finger sticks on pediatric to geriatric patient demographics.  Performs urine chain of custody.  Prepares and processes specimens with use of centrifuge, obtaining serum and plasma samples depending on need of test.  Performs as needed and timed inpatient blood collection rounds.  Works the front office of the laboratory drawing outpatients, answering phones, and maintaining laboratory documents.  Uses PC to order laboratory test and maintain patient information and test results.

Performs on-site paramedical examinations for insurance applicants.  Exams consist of a medical history questionaire, blood, urine, and saliva collection, and EKG scanning.  Physical measurements: blood pressure, pulse, height, weight, chest, waist, and abdomen.   Processes blood samples by using centrifuge to spin down specimen before packaging for delivery.  Makes sure to obtain acurate and complete medical history, and processes all paperwork and specimens in a timely manner.

Referral Specialist

1996 - 1997

Cross-trained as a Referral Specialist in the same practice processing patient referral request.  Served as a liaison between the patient and the medical insurance companies processing referral request, and obtaining approval for special procedures.  Held in-service meetings to instruct staff on the different insurance company policy and procedures.  Assisted nurses with prescription refills and orders.
 
 


Phlebotomist Technician II

Performed blood draws for a clinical laboratory.  Performed timed blood draws for in-patients throughout the hospital and processed them for analysis and diagnosis. Performed technical duties such as urine dips, urinalysis, blood clotting analysis, pregnancy testing, and blood sugar.  Instructed outpatients on correct procedures for collecting home specimens.  Performed receptionist duties such as answering phones, filing, and lab result data entry.
